We can’t believe it’s the end of another half term already, this year has gone so quickly.
Well done to Lexi and Aurora for being our ‘Readers of the Week’, they have read lots at home this week as usual, Lexi has also been on Reading Eggs at home and printed out a certificate!. For homework Liam and Seve did lots of measuring and could talk about what they did using the vocabulary taller and shorter..
After the holidays our new topic will be based on the book ‘The Naughty Bus’ by Jan and Jerry Oke! (There is a video on line if you google The Naughty Bus) We have read the book at school already and the children are really excited at the thoughts of the journeys we might have on our Naughty Bus. Who knows where we might end up! We will be looking at different places each week and writing about our adventures.
As usual we have set a task for over the holidays; we would like the children (with your help of course) to make a model of their own naughty or magic transport. It could be the ‘Naughty Aeroplane’ or the ‘Cheeky Bike’ etc.
We would also be grateful if you have any old road books/maps you could send in so we could use them in our play, any boxes to make buildings also any bus or train timetables you can pick up. The first week back we will be visiting ‘London’ and learning about the Queen and Royal family.
After the holidays we will also be looking at using number lines to help us with addition and subtraction problems by counting on and counting back. For example for 4+3 start at no.4 on the line and make 3 jumps to find the answer. The children love playing on chalk number lines outside and making hops to find the answer to problems. We have sent home a number line on the back but it would be great to hear about any number lines you make outside.
In June we will be completing the assessments on the children as they reach the end of the Foundation Stage, so it would be great if you could remember to do some reading or let your child go on ‘Reading Eggs’ to make sure they don’t forget all they have learned. We have also sent home a list of the 100 High Frequency words. To achieve a ‘good level of development’ the children are also required to recognise and order numbers to 20, so practising numbers would be a great help too!
Also after the holidays we will be finding out about recycling as part of a whole school project. In Reception we will be inviting our parents in to school to become involved and see what we have learned. Details will be sent home after the holidays.
As usual thank you for all your support, we hope you all have a lovely two weeks holiday and we hope that the sun will stay out for us.
