Five thousand years ago, the Ancient Egyptians lived in Egypt.

River Nile

The River Nile flows threw Egypt. The Nile was very special to the Egyptians and it was so important that they treated the Nile as a living thing.

There are three pyramids in Egypt and they were built in the city of Ciaro. The Pyramid of Khufu at Giza is the largest Egyptian pyramid.  Most Ancient Egyptian pyramids were built as tombs for pharaohs (rulers of Ancient Egypt) and their families. To date, over 130 pyramids have been discovered in Egypt.

Gods and Godesses

Ancient Egyptians believed in more than 2,000 Gods and Godesses! They had gods for everything, from dangers to chores! Each had different responsibilities and needed to be worshipped so that life could be kept in balance.

Men, Women and even Children wore make-up in Egyptian times.  The eye-paint was usually green (made from copper) or black (made from lead). As well as offering protection from the sun, the Egyptians believed make-up had magical healing powers, too!

The afterlife was very important to the Egyptians. They believed that by preserving a dead person’s body, which they did through the process of mummification – their soul would live on in the after-life forever.

  1. Wash the body with scented palm wine and then wash it off with water from the Nile.
  2. Now take out all the organs except the heart.
  3. Stuff the body with linen and then cover it with natron (salt).
  4. Then you need to leave the body for forty days.
  5. Wash the body again using water from the Nile then cover it in oils to make it look nice.
  6. Rap it in linen bandages and place it in it’s tomb.
