Dear Mrs Billeting Officer,
I don’t know if you remember me, but my name is William Beech (people call me Willie though). Six months ago you took me to Mister Toms house. I am one of the the escapees from London. I am writing to to tell you how thankful i am am that you brought me here. I have never been so happy in my whole entire life and i don’t want anything to change.
It was my birthday yesterday – my first ever proper birthday i have had in my life! We had a party at Mister Toms house he even got me a present! It was amazing. It was the best day ever… but then the letter arrived. It was from my mum. Mister Tom told me she was sick and wants me back. That’s why i am writing to you. I need to know why. I want to stay here with Mister Tom because he is like a dad to me.
I never thought i would be able to write a letter to you. I have not ever wrote before i came here, not even my own name! Mister Tom taught me how to write my own name and read. You can even ask Mrs Hartridge. She has moved me up to the bigger class now. Every night we practice to write.
Will you please consider not sending me back to my mum’s where i get whipped with a leather belt. Can i please stay with Mister Tom as he is very kind to me.
Yours Faithfully
Willie Beech
