Reading Books and Maths Homework

Hello Year 1 Parents and Carers,

Hope everyone is keeping well. We just wanted to update you with a couple of changes to reading books and maths homework.

Reading

Each child will be issued with two reading books per week to be read at home. The first easy reading book will be a fully decodable phonics book which will be linked to the phonics phase and sounds that your child needs to secure when reading. This book maybe repeated as a way of consolidating their phonics knowledge. Once they are secure and confident with using these phonemes to decode when reading, they will move to next stage.

The second reading book will be from the Oxford Reading Tree range (Biff, Kipper, Chip and Floppy). The idea is that you read the book to or with your child as a way to familiarise them with tricky words, common exception words and high frequency words that are not always decodable.

Maths

We are going to use White Rose Maths for our homework activity each week. Each piece of homework will have a clip to watch and worksheet to complete. The easiest way to do this, is to use Google Classroom. We will enclose your child’s login details in their homework books this week.

Most of you were able to access Google Classroom last year due to lockdown and your login details remain the same but we have changed class so you will need to accept the new invitation. Once you accept, you can access the homework electronically.

We recognise that some people may experience difficulty with this so for the next few weeks, we will post the maths clip on this page and a paper copy of the worksheet will be stuck into homework books. Please let us know if you experience any difficulties getting onto Google Classroom and we can help you. year1@corrie.tameside.sch.uk

Many Thanks,
