Welcome Back Year 5!

Hope you’ve all had a brilliant holiday and are ready and raring to go again. We are really looking forward to this half term and we hope you are too! Summer Term 1 is a very busy one, so here’s what we’ll be up to!

English

As usual, we’ve got lots of exciting activities planned in English. Our focus is on writing a narrative. We will be basing our work around the text ‘The Lost Thing’ by Shaun Tan. The focus of this book is working together as a community and finding your own identity. We will be analysing different texts and video clips to help inspire our own writing, so that we can carry on being awesome authors too!

We will develop our SPAG knowledge through continuing to learn about the various word classes and different spelling patterns, including the Y5/6 word list. We will be focussing on how to apply all our SPAG work into our own writing.

Maths

We will continue to develop our skills in the 4 operations and our understanding of Place Value, Decimals, Percentages and Fractions and Measurement. We will be focussing on the Using and Applying aspect of Maths through reasoning challenges. We will also be developing the use of number lines as a strategy to help us with calculations.

Please remember to carry on practising your times tables up to 12×12.

Science

Our topic this half term is Separating Mixtures. We will be carrying out investigations to test the properties of different materials.

Topic

Our topic for this half term is The Mayans. We will be learning all about the impact the Mayans had on the Modern World and finding out about the Mayan gods.

RSE
We will be continuing to work on RSE scheme ‘Jigsaw’ and discussing issues which are important to us and help us work together as a team. This half term’s focus is ‘Relationships.’

Computing – App Designers

We will be researching various Apps and how they work. We will develop a design for our own App.

Art

We will be looking at Pop Art artists such as Andy Warhol and creating images in the same style.

Music

We will continue to use our music scheme Charanga with a focus on ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’

RE

We will be learning about Islam and ‘What it means to be a Muslim today.’

PE

PE will be on Thursdays. Our focus this half term is Athletics.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR PE KIT. Make sure you don’t get RED on your Assertive Mentoring!

HOMEWORK

We will continue to have a creative approach to our homework this term. You will be given Maths and Spelling homework each week as well as being able to choose from a range of creative activities in Topic.

Homework is given out on Friday and is due in the following Wednesday.

REMEMBER:

Homework handed in on Wednesday is GREEN.

Homework handed in on Thursday is YELLOW.

Homework handed in on Friday is RED.

We read in class every day, so make sure you always have your Reading Log in school. Please make sure you also read regularly each week at home and ask an adult to sign your Reading Log for you. We will sign your Reading Log every WEDNESDAY  to check you have read at home, so please don’t forget!!

Spring Term 2023

Welcome Back 5T!  

Happy New Year! Hope you’ve all had a brilliant holiday and are ready and raring to go again. We are really looking forward to this half term and we hope you are too! Spring Term 1 is a very busy one, so here’s what we’ll be up to!

English

As usual, we’ve got lots of exciting activities planned in English. Our focus is on writing a biography. We will be basing our work around the text ‘The Man Who Walked Between The Towers. The focus of this book is a stunt which French man Phillipe Petit undertook between the towers of the World Trade Center in New York in 1974. We will be analysing different texts and video clips to help inspire our own writing, so that we can carry on being awesome authors too!

We will develop our SPAG knowledge through continuing to learn about the various word classes and different spelling patterns, including the Y5/6 word list. We will be focussing on how to apply all our SPAG work into our own writing.

We will continue to develop our skills in the 4 operations, our understanding of Place Value, Decimals, Percentages and Fractions and Measurement. We will be focussing on the Using and Applying aspect of Maths through Problem Solving Challenges.

Science

Our topic term is Properties of Materials. We will be carrying out investigations to test materials to see if they are dissolvable and whether they are good insulators or conductors.

Topic

Our topic for the first half of this term is Eastern Europe.. We will be learning all about famous landmarks both in Great Britain and around the World! For the second half we will be learning about Grand Designs and different types of architecture and famous buildings and strucures.

 

 

RSE

We will continue working on our RSE scheme ‘Jigsaw’ and discussing issues which are important to us and help us work together as a team. Our topic is Dreams & Goals.

Computing – Graphical Images

We will be using Sketch Map, Book Creator and Seesaw programs to design our own bridge structures. Children will be exploring drawings/illustrations representing both 2D and 3D worlds.  The children will need to think about who they are designing their building for and other elements such as what materials they might use.

 

PE

PE will be on Thursdays.

Welcome to Year 5 Autumn 2

We hope you’ve all had a brilliant holiday and are ready and raring to go again. We are really looking forward to this half term and we hope you are too! Autumn 2 is a very busy one, so here’s what we’ll be up to!

English

As usual, we’ve got lots of exciting activities planned in English. Our focus is on writing a non-chronological report based on a film clip called Pandora. We will be creating our own mythical creature and writing our own report. We will be analysing different texts and video clips to help inspire our own writing, so that we can carry on being awesome authors too!

We will develop our SPAG knowledge through continuing to learn about the various word classes and different spelling patterns, including the Y5/6 word list. We will be focussing on how to apply all our SPAG work into our own writing.

Maths

We will continue to develop our skills in the 4 operations, our understanding of  Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Interpreting Tables  and Area & Perimeter.We will be focussing on the Using and Applying aspect of Maths through Resoning Challenges and improving our Maths fluency through Fluent in Five each day.

Please remember to carry on practising your times tables up to 12×12.

 

Science

Our topic this half term is Forces. We will be carrying out investigations to test materials to see how friction affects movement.

Topic

Our topic for the whole of this term is  The Tudors. We will be learning all about the Tudor reign- Henry 8th and his 6 wives, the break with Rome and what daily life was like in the Tudor times. Don’t forget we have our Tudor Dayon Wednesday 7th December.

Jigsaw

Our next Puzzle is called Celebrating Difference where we will discuss how being different to each other makes us special and unique.

Computing – 

We will be using imovie to create different types of media.

PE will be on  Thursdays.
