Spring 2 in Year 3!

Hello everyone and welcome to Spring 2 in year 3!

We have a very busy but exciting term ahead of us with lots of fantastic events like our inflatable Egyptian museum on March 12th, Corrie’s Got Talent March 26th and our brass assembly on April 1st.

Spring

Maths:

In maths we will be start by looking at Place value. We will then look at a range of methods to add numbers, including expanded column addition and a range of mental strategies. We will continue to look at time-telling on digital and analogue clocks, and the calculation of time intervals. We will then move onto subtraction of 3 digits by 3 digits and develop our mental multiplication and division methods.

English:

We will start the half term by looking at the story ‘Temple Cat’ by Andrew Celements. The story is about an Egyptian cat who is worshipped like a god, but longs for freedom and to be treated like everyone else. We will use the story as inspiration to create a poem about temple cat and his journey. We will then use the short film Tadeo Jones as inspiration to create diary entries about the discovery of an Egyptian Tomb. We will be looking at using similes, metaphors in our descriptions and begin to organise our writing into paragraphs.

Topic: Ancient Egypt

We will continue with our topic about Ancient Egypt and have our very exciting inflatable museum coming to school. We will be learning about Egyptian gods, Howard Carter and his discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb and creating some pyramid silhouette artwork.

Science: Plants

In this topic the children will explore what plants need to grow well. They will understand that each part of plant has a function and will be able to explain them  including pollination of a flower. We will set up an investigation to see how temperature can affect how a stem transports water. We will also investigate what plants need in order to grow well by observing changes in plants in different conditions.

PHSE: JIGSAW Healthy Me

Our theme for this half term is ‘Healthy Me’, where we will discuss how we can look after our bodies and minds. We will be setting ourselves a fitness challenge!

RE: Why do people pray?

In RE the children will be looking the different reasons why people might pray in a range of religions.

PE: Games and Dance

In PE the children will have a sports coach every Monday who will be teaching them different dance routines. We will also be developing our throwing and catching skills in games by learning to play bench ball.

Music: BRASS

During our music lessons the children will have the opportunity to learn how to play a brass instrument with Tameside music service. Music lessons are every Wednesday. If your child would like to take their brass instrument home to practice, a deposit can be paid to the office allowing them to take it home.

ICT:

In ICT we will be learning about E safety including how to keep safe online, Blogging such as how to leave and comment on blogs on our school webpage and Navigating which will include finding the school website and logging into school apps.

MFL: French

We will be developing our language skills this half term by looking at colours and counting up to 50 in French.

HOME LEARNING LINKS / IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER

We are also going to continue our different approach to homework in year 3 which has proven very successful in the past. We provide the children with a menu of choices for homework activities that they can carry out during the term. They still only need to complete one piece per week. They will also receive spelling shed and active learn homework every week online. Your child should have their log is stuck in their homework book. If you do not have access to the internet at home, a worksheet version of the homework will be available.

If you would like to email us your child’s homework please email to admin@corrie.tameside.sch.uk FAO Miss Wood / Mrs Akhtar.

Home Reading: Reading a school book is part of your homework. Reading books are checked every Wednesday and will be changed on a Monday and Thursday. Your child’s reading diary must be signed before a new book is given and all activities completed (if applicable)

REMEMBER: all homework needs to be completed each week and handed in by each Wednesday to achieve GREEN for Homework in your Assertive Mentoring. If you hand it in on Thursday you will achieve YELLOW and after that you will achieve RED for that week.
