We hope you’ve had a lovely break and are ready and raring to go again! We have lots of exciting things planned this half term in the run up to Christmas, including our Tudor workshop day with a wealthy Tudor lady and her servant, 5T’s class assembly and lots of festive activities.
This half term we will be focusing on poetry. We will become familiar with a range of poetic devices and study a variety of classic and modern poems. We will then be focusing our learning on the narrative poem The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. The poem is set in 18th century rural England and tells the tragic love story of an unnamed highwayman and Bess, a landlord’s daughter. We will use this to inspire our own narrative poetry.
We will develop our SPAG knowledge through continuing to learn about the various word classes and different spelling patterns, including the Y5/6 word list. We will be focussing on how to apply all our SPAG work into our own writing.
We will continue to improve our skills in the 4 operations this half term and develop a range of mental strategies. We will be focusing on fractions and geometry and will be using a protractor to measure and draw our own angles. We will be applying our mathematical knowledge to help us to develop our problem solving skills.
Please remember to carry on practising your times tables up to 12×12.
Aim to be a Times Tables Rockstar this half term if you’re not already!
May the Force be with you!
In science this half term will be learning about a variety of forces including gravity, air resistance, water resistance and friction. We will observe and explain how gravity causes an unsupported object to fall towards the Earth. We will carry out a range of activities to identify the effects of friction, air resistance, and water resistance and will consider ways of reducing water resistance through streamlining. Children will develop their scientific skills by measuring a force using force meters and will use this knowledge to investigate which shoes have the best grip and which shoes are most slippery.
We will continue with our Tudor topic this half term and will be learning about daily life in the Tudor times, Queen Elizabeth and will be drawing our own Tudor portraits. We also have a special visit planned on November 30th from a wealthy Tudor lady and her servant!
Our theme for this half term is ‘Getting on and Falling Out’, where we will discuss the meaning of friendship and how to cope with tricky situations that may challenge our friendships with others. We will also reflect on our targets that we set and evaluate our progress towards achieving these.
Computing – Website Designers
This half term, children will be designing and creating their own webpages using WordPress. We will look at different website audiences, contents and themes before deciding on our own websites to create.
