Year 3 Spring term

After an amazing autumn term, we can’t wait to dive back in for our spring term! Here is a brief look at what we have got coming up this term:

English

We are continuing our English journey by reading ‘Cinderella of the Nile’, a brilliant text and new take on the traditional Cinderella story. This also ties in perfectly with our new ‘Ancient Egypt’ topic! We cannot wait to compare the traditional tale with our current text and re-create our own version of this classic story. We will continue to build on our foundational knowledge and skills, introducing new punctuation and writing devices.

Maths

This spring, we begin the term continuing our work on multiplication and division. We are consolidating our times tables knowledge and fluency and using this to support our work on division. Multiplication recall practice and times table rockstars at home are great to support the practice of this!

We will then move onto a unit of length and perimeter. Using millimetres, centimetres and metres to measure and compare lengths.

Science

We started this term with our Forces and magnets unit, learning all about friction, magnetism and how different forces affect the world around us. We will continue to investigate different materials and the ways magnets work.

Topic

Our topic this half term is ‘Ancient Egypt’, we will be learning all about this period of time and life in Ancient Egypt. We will investigate Tutankhamun, ancient Egyptian tombs and life as an ancient Egyptian. We will take part in a school trip to a museum to further deepen our knowledge of this time in history.

Jigsaw

Our next puzzle piece is dreams and goals. We will be thinking about our own futures and setting ourselves goals to achieve over the half-term. We will end this unit with a group project, designing a garden for someone who faces a specific challenge. This will build our teamwork, communication and empathy.

PE

PE will be TUESDAYS and WEDNESDAYS for both 3AC and 3M.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR PE KIT FOR BOTH DAYS.

This should include a plain white t-shirt or Corrie t-shirt, plain black shorts or leggings and black pumps.

HOMEWORK

We will continue to have a creative approach to our homework this term. You will be given spelling homework each week as well as being able to choose from a range of creative activities in Topic.

Homework is given out on Friday and is due in the following WEDNESDAY.

Reading Logs will be handed in and checked every WEDNESDAY.

Please make sure you read at least twice each week at home and ask an adult to sign your Reading Log for you. We can only change your reading book if it has been read twice and signed by an adult.

We are so excited to make a start on these new topics and texts, and were sure this next term will be just as great as the last!

We will be creating our own exciting stone age adventure to share with our families.

We will continue to work on our common exception word spellings and looking at a range of punctuation to make our writing exciting.

Maths

We are starting the year with the ‘Place Value’ unit in Power Maths, then moving onto addition and subtraction, partitioning numbers, comparing numbers and adding numbers on a number line.

We will be continuing to work on our times table knowledge and times table rockstars will really help to support this.
