KS1 Resource Base
Welcome to our Class Web Page.
What does your child need for KS1 Resource Base?
- A school uniform and shoes (discuss with your child’s teacher any adaptations needed).
- A water bottle (school water bottles available from KS2 Office)
- A suitable coat for weather (hooded if possible).
- A pair of wellies (waterproof over pants if possible).
- A set of spare clothes / a multi pack of underwear/ socks in a soft bag to hang on their peg.
- Necessary self-care items if required e.g. pull ups.
- A preferred healthy snack in case of restricted food choice / allergies (we provide fruit and breadsticks for example daily)
Please label all your child’s belongings clearly with their name.
We do not allow other personal items such as toys to be brought into school as these often cause disruption for your child /other children.

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING IN AUTUMN?

This theme for our Autumn terms is ‘All about Myself’.
This involves helping children to develop a sense of seeing themselves as a valuable individual, build constructive and respectful relationships, express their feelings and consider the feelings of others, regulate behaviour accordingly, work and play cooperatively including taking turns with others, and give focussed attention to what the teacher says.
Regular sessions take place daily / weekly of programmes such as: Attention Autism, Sensory Circuits, Core Words for AAC, Sensory Stories, Dough Disco, Squiggle While You Wiggle and Supersounds.
Children will also receive small group and individual sessions informed by their EHCP and current Provision Map and work directed or advised by SALT, OT and involved Educational Psychology Services.
Outdoor Learning
The children have access to outdoor areas for sensory exploration and gross motor play. The outdoor learning areas give children another setting to explore, experience and learn through different areas of the EYFS or KS1 stage curriculums.
Sensory Spaces
In addition to our outdoor sensory space, we have a sensory room for children to explore and meet their sensory needs.
Maths
Daily sessions of Maths Rhymes and Stories take place plus opportunity to explore maths resources from our Maths areas in Continuous Provision with adults to adapt activities to match individual children’s needs.
Literacy
Our activities within Literacy focus on AAC/ speaking and listening effectively to communicate and understand the world. Also developing the pre-skills and early skills necessary to become a reader and writer. We will also be developing our vocabulary and learning core words for communication.

Phonics
In Phonics we use Supersounds, an active and fun programme of regular short daily sessions aimed at supporting all the developmental skills and understanding to be ready for Phonics learning as a route to reading and spelling. The children explore all the aspects of Phase 1 Phonics. The seven aspects are: environmental sounds, instrumental sounds, body percussion, rhythm and rhyme, alliteration, voice sounds, and oral blending and segmenting.
As children become confident with all aspects of Phase 1 will begin our Storytime Phonics programme which combines learning letter sounds, word blending and segmenting within the context of enjoyable quality storybooks and related multi-sensory activities.
PE
We have two PE session per week where children have the space to explore large equipment for gross motor development of skills like climbing, balancing and jumping using different resources to within their outdoor play. They will practice coordination skills such as throwing and catching with a variety of resources likes balls, beanbags, skittles, ribbons and hoops. There will be opportunity to join in collaborative activities such as parachute games and see-saw.

Welcome to Year 5
We are really looking forward to this term and we hope you are too! Autumn Term is a very busy one, so here’s what we’ll be up to!
English
We’ve got lots of exciting activities planned in English. Our writing focus is based on a book called Leon & The Place Between. We will be creating our own narrative using a circus theme. We will also be writing a non-chronological report based on a film clip called Pandora. We will be creating our own mythical creature and writing our own report. We will be analysing different texts and video clips to help inspire our own writing, so that we can carry on being awesome authors too!

We will develop our SPAG knowledge through continuing to learn about the various word classes and different spelling patterns, including the Y5/6 word list. We will be focusing on how to apply all our SPAG work into our own writing.
In Guided Reading, we will be studying The Nowhere Emporium by Ross McKenzie, which is a fantasy narrative based on time travel.
Maths
We will continue to develop our skills in the 4 operations, our understanding of Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Interpreting Tables and Area & Perimeter. We will be focusing on the Using and Applying aspect of Maths through Reasoning Challenges and improving our Maths fluency through Fluent in Five each day.
Please remember to carry on practising your times tables up to 12×12.
Science
Our first topic this half term are Earth & Space. We will be finding out about the phases of the moon, how shadows are formed and about the seasons change. Our second topic this half term is Forces. We will be carrying out investigations to test materials to see how friction affects movement.
Topic
Our topic for the whole of this term is The Tudors. We will be learning all about the Tudor reign- Henry 8th and his 6 wives, the break with Rome and what daily life was like in the Tudor times.
Jigsaw
Our first Puzzle is called Being Me In My World. We will be discussing how we learn, how we can help others and our school community. Our next Puzzle is called Celebrating Difference where we will discuss how being different to each other makes us special and unique.
Computing
We will be using different types of information to create our own databases. We will be using imovie to create different types of media.
PE
PE will be on Mondays & Wednesdays.

We will continue to have a creative approach to our homework this term. You will be given Maths and Spelling homework each week as well as being able to choose from a range of creative activities in Topic.

English
To begin the school year, we are starting with the text ‘The First Drawing’ by Mordecai Gerstein, this is a great book, linked to our topic about ‘The Stone Age’. This book will develop our knowledge about life in the stone age and will also provide lots of great writing opportunities. We will be creating our own exciting stone age adventure to share with our families.
We will continue to work on our common exception word spellings and looking at a range of punctuation to make our writing exciting.
Maths
We are starting the year with the ‘Place Value’ unit in Power Maths, then moving onto addition and subtraction, partitioning numbers, comparing numbers and adding numbers on a number line.
We will be continuing to work on our times table knowledge and times table rockstars will really help to support this.
Science
This half term our science unit is ‘Animals including Humans’. We will be learning about the links between animals and humans. We be exploring vertebrates and invertebrates, looking at the function of muscles in the human body and learning about a balanced diet.
Topic
Our topic this half term is ‘The Stone Age’, we will learning all about this period of time and life in the Stone Age. There will be a stone age workshop, with lots of artefacts and information for us to enjoy and we will be creating our own Stone Age menu, then making the food,

We will explore a range of maps at a local, national and global level, developing the understanding of how to navigate around an atlas to find key countries, continents, oceans and seas along with devising their own maps and routes. We will learn how to ‘view from above’ looking at aerial photographs to spot human and physical features, understand simple map symbols, compass directions and develop key geographical vocabulary throughout the unit.

Welcome to Boost Group!

Children who attend our ‘Boost group’ have been identified as needing an extra ‘boost’ with their learning.
Each morning, each child will work to develop their speaking and listening, reading, writing and maths skills.
Here you will find further information about what your child in Boost Group will be learning in other areas of the curriculum, along with other useful information.
Autumn Curriculum
Topic: Our School
This term the children will begin to recognise familiar places in their local area; understand they have a different home address to each other, be aware of simple compass directions (NESW), use aerial photographs to recognise basic human and physical features, use simple fieldwork skills to study the geography of the school, make simple observations about the geography of the classroom and school.
Science: Light
In the light unit children will learn about light sources and how shadows are formed.
PHSE: JIGSAW : Being in my world
Our school follows a scheme called Jigsaw and this term Boost group children will complete a unit called ‘Being in my world’ which the children will talk about when they feel worried and who then can ask for help, how to help themselves and others feel like they belong, how to help their class a safe and fair place and how to work cooperatively.
RE:
In RE the children will be looking at: Who is a Christian?
PE: Basketball (also swimming for year 4 children)
The children will continue to have the sports coach working with them on a Thursday afternoon. This half term, the children will developing their skills for the game of basketball.
Please ensure your correct and full PE kit is in school all week as PE days may change to accommodate other activities taking place in school.
Year 4 children, will join their peers and attend swimming lessons on a Monday afternoon. Please make sure the children have appropriate swimming kits and towels in a bag.
Music:
Music this half term will be using the Charanga scheme, Anyone can play.
Computing: Digital Painting
This term the children will explore the world of digital art and its range of creative tools.
Forest School
Children in Boost Group have the fantastic opportunity to take part in Forest Schooling each Friday. We venture out in all sorts of weather conditions and therefore children should have waterproof and warm clothing and sturdy footwear.
Other Support
To help support each child’s individual needs, children may take part in other activities to support their needs. These may include Zones of Regulation, speech and language, motor skills, lego therapy, social skills, memory skills or support with specific life skills.
Home Reading:
We ask that you read with your child as often as possible and sign their reading record a minimum of twice weekly in line with school policy. We will check reading records and change reading books every Thursday. We monitor reading, homework and PE kits as part of our Assertive Mentoring Scheme.
Homework
Homework will be issued each Thursday and should be completed each week and handed in by the following Tuesday to achieve GREEN for Homework in Assertive Mentoring. If it is handed it in on Wednesday or Thursday you will achieve YELLOW. If you don’t hand your homework in you will be RED for that week.
Other important information:
Please ensure your child’s name is clearly written in all your school uniform.
Children have a login for Active Learn, Readingeggs, Spellingshed and Times Table Rockstars. Each of these will help support your child’s learning and can be used at home. Please ask an adult if you lose or forget your login.

During this half term we will be extending the children’s social and emotional development, looking at celebrating differences, continuing our understanding of different celebrations and the changing seasons.

Phonics
In Phonics, the children will be continuing to enhance their Phase 1 knowledge and begin to build their Phase 2 Phonics sounds and the Phase 2 key words. These will be sent as homework for the children to practise at home.
We use the Story Time Phonics scheme to teach phonics. It supports the Phonics Planning of Letters and Sounds by learning the actions to the song for each new letter sound and the actions.

Outdoor Learning
The children have access to the outdoor area where we develop children’s creative ideas through different role-play areas enhanced with quality play equipment. The outdoor learning gives children the platform to learn and explore through all the areas of the Early Years Foundation stage curriculum.
Learning at Home
Your child will continue to bring home a library book and a reading book to share with you.
Their library, home reading book and homework book is handed in every Wednesday.
Their home reading book is changed on a Wednesday.
Your child’s library book will be changed every Friday.
Every Friday, your child will bring their homework book home to complete an activity that supports their learning that has taken place that week, which you can choose with your child from the menu inside their homework book. These can be completed in any order. They can be completed in their homework book or presented and shared in any way that they choose. For example, photographs and videos taken can be shared by email at reception@corrie.tameside.sch.uk Their homework is due the following Wednesday every week.
